THIS PATHETIC PICTURE PAINTED by one of the best thinkers in our motherland, about half a century ago has tremendously changed to the positive. But it is only in this generation that the stars of emanicipation and liberation, will shine in the hearts of majority of Africans. Like the mariners after a long voyage in a tempestuous sea, at this juncture we should say that we now hail the sight of the destination or new land. We are blessed to understand the true nature of our psychological situation. Unlike the ancient mathematician Archimedes (287 - 212 BC), who in his impatient idealism asked for one fixed and immovable point (a point which is non-existent) so as “to move the whole earth from its place and turn it upside down”, we have stood on the earth itself and gone with her at her pace. We have persisted in an undaunted search for hope amidst various signs of despair and in the direction of finding an unshakably certain African Answer, to turn our society “upside down and inside out”. In this fathomless ocean, we have decided not to twirl around aimlessly but to strive towards dropping our anchor in the new banks of new lands. As it is not hankering for the sea that urges us on or propels us forward, in this long voyage towards SELF-ACTUALIZATION, we wish and have to land in the new land, for it is to this end that the voyage had been undertaken. Resolutely we will have to throw our anchor, and this anchor is AFRICAN RENAISSANCE; which is an all-powerful, an all-uniting ideal in which the whole stream of full heartfelt desires and passions shall be poured out. A new AFRICAN CIVILIZATION is the safe harbour for the restless wanderer. It is the light lighting the night of endless longing. It is the concept whose redeemed Africans shall proclaim from out the fullness of Continental heart. It is the ideal which we set forth as crown upon the summit of ‘existential’ tone.
