Robust Renaissance

On believing that an African Renaissance is a pipe dream unrealisable in all ways

✦ The Phoenix of African Renaissance ✦

The icon depicts Africa's silhouette as a rising flame within a seven-rayed solar mandala — a Phoenix bearing the continent's soul on wings of crimson hope. Why does it resonate?

T Transformation — The flame cradling the continent signifies that Africa's rebirth is not external rescue but internal combustion; a sovereign fire lit from within.
H Heroism — The Phoenix wings speak of the African hero who does not merely survive annihilation but transmutes it into soaring creative energy.
E Emergence — Seven rays encode the Seven Gates of Mutation; each one a stage of conscious emergence from the chrysalis of conditioned limitation.
R Rootedness — The continent silhouette anchors the icon to a specific geography and a specific people; this Renaissance belongs to those with soil in their blood.
A Awakening — The pulsing golden core mirrors Beyondism's declaration: the dormant genius of every African soul is not absent — it is merely asleep, awaiting the sacred voltage of self-knowledge.
P Purpose — The constellation above the icon maps a celestial navigation system; the stars do not wander — they point the way toward an African destiny written in the heavens.
Y Yearning — The outer ring's endless rotation embodies the Beyondist ache for the Infinite — that holy restlessness which will not permit the African soul to settle for less than its cosmic inheritance.

Voices of the Awakening
"
The Negro boy has obstacles, discouragements, and temptations to battle with that are little known to those not situated as he is. When a white boy undertakes a task, it is taken for granted that he will succeed. On the other hand, people are usually surprised if the Negro boy does not fail.

"
I must own, to the shame of my own countrymen, that I was first kid-napped and betrayed by some of my own complexion, who were the first cause of my exile and slavery; but if there were no buyers there would be no sellers.

"
Africa, idle giant basking in the sun, sleeping, snoring, twitching in dreams… Chained to the rock of poverty, and yet laughing, always laughing and dancing — the chains on his legs jangling…
— Okot p'Bitek, Ugandan Poet & Social Anthropologist, Song of Ocol (1969)
"
There is only one home to the life of a tortoise; there is only one shell to the soul of man: there is only one world to the spirit of our race. If that world leaves its course and smashes on the boulder of the great void, whose world will give us shelter?
— Wole Soyinka, Nigerian Nobel Laureate (1934–)
The Beyondist Declaration

This pathetic picture painted by one of the best thinkers in our motherland, about half a century ago, has tremendously changed to the positive. But it is only in this generation that the stars of emancipation and liberation will shine in the hearts of a majority of Africans. Like mariners after a long voyage in a tempestuous sea, at this juncture we hail the sight of the new land. We are blessed to understand the true nature of our psychological situation. Unlike Archimedes (287–212 BC), who asked for one fixed and immovable point so as "to move the whole earth", we have stood on the earth itself and gone with her at her pace. We have persisted in an undaunted search for hope amidst despair — in the direction of finding an unshakably certain African Answer. Resolutely we throw our anchor, and this anchor is AFRICAN RENAISSANCE: an all-powerful, all-uniting ideal. A new African Civilization is the safe harbour for the restless wanderer. It is the light that lights the night of endless longing. Blessed is you — who pronounces the greatness of these times!
