The ability to mimic and get inside others thought patterns depends on collecting as much information on them as I can, analysing their past behaviour for its habitual patterns, and being alert to the signs they give off in the present. It is of course critical that people be unaware I am watching them so closely. A friendly front, will help disguise what I am doing. I should not ask too many questions; the trick is to get people to relax and open up without prodding, shadowing them so quietly that they never guess what I am really up to.

The oily character who is ingratiatingly effusive with flattery may be hiding hostility and ill will; the aggressive bully may be hiding insecurity; the moraliser may be making a show of purity to hide nefarious desires. Whether they are throwing dust in my eyes or their own - they may be trying to convince themselves that they are not what they are afraid they are - the opposite trait lurks below the surface. In general, it is easier to observe people in action, particularly in moments of crisis. Those are the times when they either reveal their weakness or struggle so hard to disguise it that I can see through the mask. I can actively probe them by doing things that seem harmless but get a response - maybe say something bold or provocative, then see how they react. Making people emotional, pushing their buttons, will touch some deep part of their nature. Either they will let slip some truth about themselves or they will put on a mask that I, in the laboratory situation I have created, will be able to peer behind.

PROPOSE: - People should always reciprocate a positive action, and should treat me as I have treated them. Human nature is essentially good, and most people will keep their promises. As such, I should believe the word of mouth and save myself the unnecessary speculations about their motives.
OPPOSE: - Blinded by narcissism (excess self-admiration), I will misread every signal along the way. My natural tendency is to see other people as mere reflections of my own desires and values. Failing to understand the ways they are not like me, I am surprised when they do not respond as I had imagined. I unintentionally offend and alienate people, then blame them, not my inability to understand them, for the damage done. I should understand: if I let narcissism act as a screen between me and other people, I will misread them and my strategies will misfire. I must be aware of this and struggle to see others dispassionately. Every individual is like an alien culture. I must get inside his or her way of thinking, not as an exercise in sensitivity but out of strategic necessity. Only by knowing my rivals can I ever hope to vanquish them.
DISPOSE: - There are two kinds of eyes: one kind simply looks at things and the other sees through things to perceive their inner nature. The former should not be tense [so as to observe as much as possible]; the latter should be strong [so as to discern the workings of the opponent’s mind clearly]. The first step in the process is to get over the idea that people are impenetrable mysteries and that only some trick will let me peek into their souls. Even while we consciously struggle to control this hidden yearning, unconsciously we are always sending out signals that reveal a part of what is going on inside - slips of the tongue, tones of voice, styles of dress, nervous twitches, sudden irrational actions, a look in the eye that contradicts our words, the things we say after a drink. I should understand that day in and day out, people emit signals that reveal their intentions and deepest desires. If I do not pick them up, it is because I am not paying attention. The reason for this is simple: I am usually locked up in my own world, listening to my internal monologues, obsessed with myself and with satisfying my own ego. I tend to see other people merely as reflections of myself. To the extent that I can drop my self-interest and see people for who they are, divorced from my desires, I will become more sensitive to their signals. The ability to read people is a critical survival skill.

As a charmer, I have learnt that there will always be difficult people for me to face — the chronically insecure, the hopelessly stubborn, the hysterical complainers. My ability to disarm these people will prove an invaluable skill. I will have to be careful, though: if I am passive they will run all over me; if assertive I will make their monstrous qualities worse. Seduction and charm are the most effective counterweapons. Outwardly, I will be gracious. Adapt to their every mood. I will enter their spirit. Inwardly, I will calculate and wait: my surrender is a strategy, not a way of LIFE. When the time comes, and it inevitably will, the tables will turn. Their aggression will land them in trouble, and that will put me in a position to rescue them, regaining superiority. (I could also decide that I had had enough, and consign them to oblivion.) My charm will have prevented them from foreseeing this or growing suspicious. It is my well considerd opinion that, a whole revolution can be enacted without a single act of violence, simply by waiting for the apple to ripen and fall. As a charismatic, I will express magnetism. If any physical attribute is crucial in seduction, it is the eyes. They reveal excitement, tension, detachment, without a word being spoken. Indirect communication is critical in seduction, and also in charisma.
