BEYONDISM
Becoming & Relating in Secondary Schools
A school-first pathway for self-discovery, philosophical inquiry, relationship intelligence and youth facilitation.
The two questions
Who am I becoming? Tap BECOMING — Discover Yourself
How do I relate? Tap RELATING — Discover Others
The bridge Tap Discover Your Place in the World.
“Every one of you is becoming someone. But who is doing the choosing?”
A practical approach for opening the school door without asking a school to adopt a new subject or programme at the outset.
1. The appropriate way into secondary schools
The recommended approach is school-first, pilot-first and teacher-supported. BEYONDISM should enter the school through a small, credible experience rather than a request to immediately adopt a large programme.
School leadership Tap Principal / Headteacher → Deputy Principal → relevant teacher or department.
A small pilot Tap Offer one 60–90 minute BECOMING & RELATING experience for interested students.
A school champion Tap Identify one teacher who can act as the school's liaison and safeguarding point.
Voluntary student choice Tap Students choose whether to continue; do not ask the school to provide student contact lists.
The school is the gateway, not the database Tap School → Introduction → Student chooses → Student registers → BECOMING → RELATING → Wayfinder formation → Student introduces others.
2. How to position BEYONDISM
Do not begin by asking a school to “adopt BEYONDISM.” Begin with the educational experience the school can immediately understand.
Lead with REVEAL as the framework Tap
Self-discovery Relationship intelligence Critical inquiry Reflection Responsible relationships Youth initiative
BEYONDISM provides the philosophical architecture and interactive journey through which these questions are explored.
What to say to a school Tap “We are not asking your school to adopt BEYONDISM. We are asking you to let your students experience two questions: WHO AM I BECOMING? and HOW DO I RELATE?”
BECOMING Tap Central question: Who am I becoming?
Identity • potential • values • aspirations • choices • influence • purpose
RELATING Tap Central question: How do I relate?
Friendship • empathy • communication • influence • peer pressure • disagreement • respect
3. The first product: the Becoming & Relating Experience
The first offer should be small enough for a school to say yes to, yet memorable enough for students to want to continue.
Duration Tap
Initial size Tap Approximately 30–100 students
Format Tap Interactive questions • reflection • dialogue • discovery • action
Partnership Tap BEYONDISM facilitator + designated school teacher
Cost Tap Ideally free for initial pilot schools
Next step Tap Voluntary digital journey and facilitator pathway
Suggested opening Tap “Every one of you is becoming someone. But who is doing the choosing?”
Then move naturally to… Tap “And because you are becoming someone, the people around you matter. So how do you relate?”
The session should feel like an adventure in questions rather than a lecture about philosophy.
4. Build a school champion
Potential champions include:
Guidance / Counselling Humanities / Social Studies CRE / IRE English / Kiswahili Debate / Drama Student leadership Clubs / life-skills activities
Safeguarding principle Tap In school settings, present the Codes as self-discovery, philosophical inquiry, character formation and relationship intelligence. Avoid positioning the programme as clinical “therapy.”
Serious personal or safeguarding concerns should be routed through the school's established professional support structures.
5. From first experience to Youth Wayfinder
The objective is not merely exposure. It is to create a pathway from curiosity to participation and, for those who choose it, facilitation. Tap each step.
BEYONDISM Youth Wayfinder Tap Not a preacher. Not a lecturer. A questioner, explorer and facilitator.
ASK. EXPLORE. DISCUSS. FACILITATE.
6. The 10-school initiative
A practical first campaign is a limited pilot across a small number of schools. The figures below are proposed targets, not existing results.
10 Schools Tap
70 Student Wayfinders Tap
700+ Students exposed Tap
Measure the pilot Tap Number of participating schools Student participation and completion Questions generated by students Student and teacher feedback Wayfinder facilitator performance Repeat participation Schools requesting continuation
Beyond the first schools Tap Once there is evidence from school pilots, the initiative can approach broader school networks, county or regional education stakeholders and, where appropriate, national curriculum stakeholders.
DEMONSTRATE → DOCUMENT → REFINE → EXPAND
7. The one-page proposition for a school
BEYONDISM Becoming & Relating — a Youth Self-Discovery & Philosophical Inquiry Experience.
BECOMING — Who am I becoming? Tap Identity • potential • values • aspirations • choices • influence • purpose
RELATING — How do I relate? Tap Friendship • empathy • communication • influence • peer pressure • disagreement • respect
Method — How does the experience work? Tap Question → Reflection → Dialogue → Discovery → Action
School value — What can students practise? Tap Self-awareness • inquiry • reflection • responsible relationships • initiative
The ask Tap Permission for one introductory session with interested students.
Not a request for student contact lists. Not a request to replace an existing subject. A small opportunity for students to experience two powerful questions.
The promotional line Tap “We want to help secondary-school students develop a spirit of inquiry about who they are becoming and how they relate to others. BEYONDISM provides the philosophical framework and interactive experience through which we do this.”
BECOMING Tap
RELATING Tap
WAYFINDING Tap
